We are continuously monitoring the catchment rivers for herbicides, even during the pandemic. This has generated a highly impactful dataset. The main findings to date are:
- Many of the monitored herbicides were present in both surface and groundwater.
- High concentrations of herbicides in surface water during summer were attributed to the timing of herbicide usage and lack of dilution during low river flows.
- The herbicide losses to surface water were source limited and strongly influenced and driven by the physical and hydrological conditions.
This information is essential to understand water quality and to design multi-actor and collaborative mitigation measures to reduce herbicide losses to water.
