Start of Private Well Sampling

Having sought permission from the householders to sample the wells for WaterProtect, sampling has begun in Ballycanew. All wells are being tested for routine water quality indicators in Teagasc Johnstown Castle laboratories as well as a suite of acid herbicides, their breakdown products and other emerging organic contaminants (in Natural Resources Wales Analytical Services). For logistical reasons (i.e. shipping large sample volumes which must be kept chilled all the way to Wales) the sampling is being carried out in four separate batches. The first batch (28 wells) was sampled and shipped on week beginning 1st of October 2018.
